The International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) is a continuing annual programme of cross-national collaboration on surveys covering topics important for social science research. Since 1983 it brings together pre-existing social science projects and co-ordinates research goals, thereby adding a cross-national, cross-cultural perspective to the individual national studies.
The secretariat of the ISSP co-ordinates the official activities of the group. The GESIS-ZA as the official archive carries out the data service of the ISSP since 1986. GESIS-ZUMA, the national ISSP member, is convenor of the ISSP methodology research groups.

The European Election Study 1994 is a survey study of the electorates of the member states of the European Community. It focuses in particular on the fourth election of the European Parliament, which was conducted in June 1994. The study essentially consists of a survey conducted immediately after the European Parliament Election of June 1994. Variables of three other surveys, surrounding Eurobarometer surveys, are documented and included in addition. The first two of these (Eurobarometers 40 and 41) took place before the European elections, in October-November 1993 and April-May 1994 respectively. The third (Eurobarometer 42) was conducted in November-December 1994. While the main wave is the postelectoral survey, the other three interviews have partially overlapping contents. Some of the questions have been included in two, a few in three or all four of the interviews. Voting behaviour and vote intention in the European Election 1994 / European Election campaign / issues: salience, party competence, perceived and preferred level to solve problems / voting behaviour and vote intention in national elections / probability to vote a party / parties, unions, churches / ideological position: left-right self placement, closest political belief, value orientation / political interest, and communications / satisfaction with democracy on different levels /cognition of the European Union and its institutions / European and-or national policy fields / national and European identification / attitudes towards the European Union and its institutions / attitudes towards inhabitants of member states of the European Union / approval to and membership in particular movements / social background and personal outlook of the respondents. Since 1970, a team of social scientists, have been building a database of references to literature on social and behavioral research methodology, statistical analysis, and computer software.
Over 100 international periodicals, as well as readers, research reports, congress proceedings, and books from the social sciences are selected, screened 'cover to cover' and indexed.
The documentation is limited to the English, French, German and Dutch literature.
The SRM database CD-ROM files are created in 2004.

The LISS panel has been founded by the CentERdata research institute in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Since 2007, the nearly 8.000 individuals in the panel complete various online questionnaires each month. Academic researchers can require access to these data at no cost after signing a statement concerning the use of the data.
Furthermore, the LISS panel can be used to collect one's own data. This is also cost-free for researchers at universities and scientific institutes. Researchers from the Netherlands and abroad are free to submit a survey proposal. Proposals can be very brief, can be submitted throughout the year, and will be reviewed within one to three months (see the website for guidelines).
Next to researchers’ own studies, the LISS Core Study is fielded in the panel every year, consisting of several modules on various themes such as work, education, health, family relations, social integration, leisure time, ethnicity, religion, income, assets, political views, values and personality.
The LISS panel is specifically intended for scientific research. For this reason, the quality and the coverage of the sample is of prime concern. The panel is based on a traditional random sample drawn from the population registers. Persons not included in the original sample cannot participate, so there can be no self-selection. People without a computer or Internet connection are provided with equipment to participate by CentERdata. The quality and representativeness of the panel are monitored jointly with Statistics Netherlands.
In addition to the LISS panel an Immigrant panel was available from October 2010 up until December 2014. This Immigrant panel consisted of around 1600 households (2400 individuals) of which 1100 households (1700 individuals) were of non-Dutch origin.
The LISS panel datafiles are archived at DANS, but accessible via the LISS data archive:

In the last decades, many large-scale representative household surveys have been conducted in developing countries. In these surveys, for millions of individuals, demographic, socio-economic, health and other information has been collected. At this moment, the data from these surveys cover over 100 countries in all regions of the developing world.
In the Database Developing World (DDW) these datasets are brought together, made comparable, and enriched with contextual data at the subnational and national level. In this way, a unique window to the developing world is created that makes it possible to study important processes taking place there on a scale and with a degree of detail that has never been possible before.

The main purpose of this data collection was to provide directly accessible information on change and stability of electoral behavior and political orientation in the Netherlands.
This dataset is a compilation of common core variables included in the Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies of 1971, 1972, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1989, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2003, and 2006. However, several of the election studies consist of pre-election interviews as well as post-election interviews.
Hence, the criteria for selecting the waves and variables were:
(1) The waves and variables included in the integrated dataset should be as representative as possible of the Dutch electorate,
(2) If a variable was not available in the first wave of a study, it was taken from the second wave or the third wave,
(3) All variables included at least four times in the 1971-2006 studies were included in the integrated dataset (albeit with some exceptions, documented below), and
(4) If necessary, selected variables were recoded and converted to facilitate longitudinal analyses.
The major areas of study focus on national problems, political efficacy, perceived stand of the main political parties on important political issues, view of religion in society, satisfaction with government, social participation, voting behavior in recent elections, left-right self-rating, left-right rating of political parties, sense of civic competence, civic political participation, legitimacy of social protest and government reaction, political distrust, and political cynicism. Respondents' views on other salient political and social issues, such as abortion, nuclear energy, differences in income, and nuclear armaments, were also elicited.

The questionnaire consists of the core questions from the European Social Survey in which a Multi Trait Multi Method (MTMM)-experiment was incorporated. Each MTMM experiment consisted of three questions (traits) and one repetition of the same questions in a different form at the end of the questionnaire. Since the order in which the different forms of the questions are asked may make a difference for the quality estimates of the questions, a three group Split Ballot MTMM design was used for each topic.

This dataset contains the writings of the Russian anarchist Michail Aleksandrovic Bakunin. It includes images and transcriptions of more than 1200 letters and more than 350 texts that Bakunin wrote in the period 1823-1876. Apart from the writings and letters of Bakunin, the dataset contains miscellaneous materials, like notes Bakunin made on works he studied, codes he used for some of his correspondence, and personal documents.
Of all documents a version is available in French. For documents that Bakunin wrote in other languages, a transcription in the original language is also available. Russian texts are presented in cyrillic. The dataset contains images of all original manuscripts available so as to enable comparison with the transcriptions.
Transcriptions of texts are based on Bakunin's original manuscripts (or microfilms or photocopies of these) whenever these were available. Information is provided about the manuscripts and editions used. Additional notes provide details about date, place of origin, location of the document, original language, translation, and addressee.
All the data were published on CD-Rom: "Bakounine: Oeuvres complètes". Amsterdam: Edita, 2000; ISBN 90-6984-303-X (publication of IISG, NIWI and KNAW).

In this study, respondents were asked to judge the ministers who serve in the fourth cabinet Balkenende on how reliable, sympathetic, competent and honest they think they are.
In January 2009, the LISS panel was presented a questionnaire about the ministers currently serving in the fourth cabinet Balkenende. Panel members were assigned to one of three groups on the basis of a random variable. One group was presented a photograph of the minister concerned when asked to assess this minister. A second group was presented a group photo on which the minister concerned was individually encircled. The third group was not presented any photographs while completing the questionnaire.
The survey is scheduled to be repeated in July 2009, in January and July 2010 and in January 2011.

A mashup is a web application that combines data from more than one source into an integrated experience. This political mashup brings together political information produced by Dutch political parties (their promises and actions: election manifestos, party websites, parliamentary proceedings) and as well information on the reception of political promises and actions (news as well as user generated content from blogs, discussion for and comments on news items). This political mashup enables novel historical research, creates challenging opportunities for computational linguists, and offers valuable and innovative testing-grounds for information retrieval researchers. The PoliticalMashup dataset comprises of all parliamentary proceedings of the Dutch Parliament and Senate from 1814 until april 2012.
For related datasets see the Thematic collection: 'PoliticalMashup and Dutch Parliamentary Proceedings 1814-2013'.

The modules 2010 (“Environment III”) and 2011 (“Health”) of the International Social Survey Programme in the Netherlands [ISSP-NL] were conducted in 2011 as a stand-alone postal survey at the VU University Amsterdam [VUA] (Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Social Research Methodology) by Harry B.G. Ganzeboom [principal investigator] and Heike Schroeder [fieldwork manager]. Note that this combined dataset is more elaborate than the Dutch part of the international ISSP file, archived at GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne, Germany.

The Expert Judgement Survey for European Political Parties is a data set consisting of scores of various characteristics of political parties given by political scientists and other experts of political parties in 38 European countries, including both West and East European countries, Turkey and Israel. The data set is the follow-up of the Expert Judgement Survey for West European Political Parties 2000 which aim was ‘to discover opportunity structures for political parties with respect to the immigration theme as well as organizational aspects of political parties’ (Lubbers, 2001: p.2). The Expert Judgement Survey of European Political Parties 2010 has a similar aim and extends the Expert Judgement Survey 2000 by adding other questions that deal with typical radical right party characteristics: immigration restrictiveness, populism, authoritarianism, nationalism, and (anti-) establishment image.

Dutch Parliamentary Election Study 2012 (DPES/NKO 2012)
The Dutch Parliamentary Election Study 2012 has been a collaborative enterprise of the Foundation of Electoral Studies in The Netherlands (Stichting Kiezers Onderzoek Nederland; SKON) and Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
The Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies (DPES) are a series of national surveys carried out under the auspices of the Dutch Electoral Research Foundation (SKON). These surveys have been conducted since 1970. Many questions are replicated across studies, although each has questions not asked in the others. The major substantive areas consistently covered include the respondents' attitudes toward and expectations of the government and its effectiveness in both domestic and foreign policy, the most important problems facing the people of the Netherlands, the respondents' voting behavior and participation history, and his/her knowledge of and faith in the nation's political leaders.
The DPES 2012 consists of two parts: A first round of interviews (CAPI) and a self-completion questionnaire (PAPI). The interviews with respondents were held in the first seven weeks after the elections. After the interview the interviewee obtained a self-completion questionnaire to fill out. About one week after the interview, a new appointment was made in order for the interviewer to collect the questionnaire. This was done in order to increase the PAPI-response.
An important difference with earlier versions of the Dutch Parliamentary Election Study is that usually there were two rounds of interviews held, one before and one after the elections. In 2012 the two rounds were put together into one combined round of CAPI-interviews after the elections.
Several variables have been excluded from the public data file in order to protect the privacy of individual respondents. Examples are municipality, zip code and the regional newspaper a person is reading. These variables are available for scientific purposes only at Statistics Netherlands. For more information, contact the Centre for Policy Related Statistics at Statistics Netherlands via cvb@cbs.nl.

This study is twofold. First, this study aims to investigate to what extent the language in which a questionnaire is drawn up, affects the invariance between cultural groups (within a sample).
Secondly, this study investigates whether there are differences in the extent to which groups of different ethnic origin, within the Netherlands, experience feelings of distrust, dissatisfaction and a desire for political change.

Persfotografie in Nederland, 1837-2014', in Wijfjes, J., Bardoel, J. 'Journalistieke Cultuur in Nederland', hernieuwde versie, ISBN: 9789089645586 (april 2015).

The project examines trends since 1980 in the proportions of binational marriages between citizens of European Union countries. It pays special attention to the nationalities of those entering these marriages. The goal of the demographic analysis is to assess to what extent the European single market has contributed to an increase in binational marriages. In addition, it attempts to determine to what extent changes in the proportion of binational marriages and the distribution of these marriages by nationality are driven by market processes (e.g. greater intra-European migration) and by social and cultural processes (e.g. affinity between citizens of specific nationalities). In addition, the project will examine to what extent being part of a binational marriage is associated with different orientations to European integration, a lowered sense of membership in the national community of origin, a stronger sense of belonging to Europe, and different lifestyles and worldviews.

Similar to the previous General Election Studies, the 2007 General Election Study Belgium (fifth study) focuses on general political attitudes and behavior. Data has been collected on political information and knowledge, perceptions of political bodies such as parties, and perceptions of problems and important issues. Other questions deal with party identification, party preferences, feelings of political efficacy, and the nature and extent of political participation. Perceptions of social class and (economic) well-being, authoritarian attitudes, attitudes to immigrant workers, political corruption and the environment are some of the other areas investigated in this study. Extensive demographic data on respondents and their families have also been collected.
The General Election Study Belgium has many objectives. First of all, it is intended to show a cross-section of political attitudes and behavior of Belgians after each General Election. Second, in order to study possible developments in political attitudes and behavior, Belgian General Election Study requires a longitudinal character, similar to some other European Election Studies. The third objective is to maximise the relationship with current theoretical research in different scientific disciplines such as political science, sociology, and social psychology. A final objective is to develop comparative research between the different regions and communities of Belgium, as well as with other countries.

In order to obtain a representative sample of the use of grey literature in LibGuides across Canadian post-secondary institutions, an environmental scan was undertaken, identifying 17 colleges or universities where grey literature resources were directly mentioned and included alongside academic databases.
After viewing the LibGuides within each of the post-secondary institutions listed in Table 2 of the attached paper, 52 library staff (librarians and information specialists) were identified. A brief online survey (please see accompanying dataset file) was sent to each of the 52 library staff members, to uncover how students and researchers use grey literature, and perhaps most importantly, to verify from the participant responses whether or not sections of existing LibGuides have been devoted to including the grey literature in information-seeking pursuits.
9 of the in 17 institutions polled participated in the survey, yielding a response rate of 52.9%. All respondents confirmed that grey literature was mentioned in the research guides/subject guides/LibGuides used within their institution.
This data set is affiliated with GL18, the 18th International Grey Conference, held at the New York Academy of Medicine from November 28-29, 2016. The presentation slides were delivered at GL 18 and were published in the GL18 Conference Book, produced by GreyNet. The accompanying full-text paper will be published by GreyNet in the GL18 Conference Proceedings, scheduled for release in February 2017.

Elections for the municipal council were held in 380 Dutch municipalities on March 5th 2014. These are the rows of the data matrix. In 133 of them at lest one Vote Advice Application (VAA) was used. Three different sets of variables appear in the columns of the data-matrix. First, whether a VAA was used, and if so, which one(s) out of the six VAAs. Next, the dataset includes for each of the 964 parties that offered candidates in at least one municipality the number of votes and the number of seats in the municipal council for the municipal elections that were held in 2014 and in 2010 (four variables per party). In addition to basic aggregate features of municipal voting (number of eligible voters, turnout, number of invalid votes) calculated aggregate features such as volatility (net shift of votes / seats in 2014 as compared to 2010) and fragmentation (effective number of different parties) are included. For each of the municipalities basic socio-demographic statistics from the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) are included (population size, crime, dominant age category, average income and ethnic fragmentation (the latter is a composite based on detailed CBS data on the number of inhabitants from different ethnicities)). Furthermore composite muicipal characteristics were added based on a factor analysis of measured indicators (scores on socio-economic rich-poor dimension and on cultural dimension (rural-monocultural versus urban-multicultural). The data set was set up to study whether VAAs are helpful to countervaill the trends toward lower turnout, higher volatility and further fragmentation.

Between 14 September and 31 October 2015, the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) carried out a large opinion survey on all six Dutch Caribbean islands. This was an independent, academic survey, sponsored financially by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Dr. Wouter Veenendaal is the leading researcher of this academic project.
On each island a number of addresses were selected by means of a randomly drawn sample, and between 14 September and 31 October 2015, each of these addresses was visited by a local interviewer. The residents of these addresses were interviewed by means of a paper questionnaire, which addressed the following topics: 1) the relationship between the islands and Holland, 2) local politics on the island, and 3) media consumption. Interviews were conducted in Dutch, English, Papiamentu or Spanish.
The most important reason for this research, is the fact that only very few academic and comparative opinion surveys have been carried out on the islands: the most recent comprehensive opinion survey was conducted in 1998. Because five years have now passed since the momentous constitutional reforms of 2010, it is extremely important to know the opinions of the populations of the islands about the Kingdom and about the changed relationship with the other islands and Holland. In addition, it will be interesting to draw comparisons between the different islands, and to see if any differences can be observed between the islands that in 2010 have become autonomous countries, and those that became public bodies of Holland instead.

Data set for the paper entitled "Learning and forgetting in the jet fighter aircraft industry". Data set includes flayaway cost and number of procurement units for three types of aircraft: F-22A Raptor, F-35A Lighnight II, and A/F-18-E/F Super Hornet. Data set also includes military procurements deflator. Annual data. Samples periods: 2000-2009 for the Raptor, 2007-2015 for the Lighnight II, and 1997-2013 for the Super Hornet. Data set includes all information for estimating learning curves and forgotting as presented in the corresponding paper. Data set also includes procument units and flyaway cost for the EA-18G Glowler, which it is a posterior modification of the Super Hornet for electronic warfare. These data are not included in the research paper, but they can be used to check that flyaway cost is constant as production accumulated, and no learning-by-doing process is observed for this particular aircraft (as all learning was acquired during the previous production of the Super Hornet).
Abstract:
A recent strategy carried out by the aircraft industry to reduce the total cost of new generation fighter has consisted in the development of a single airframe with different technical and operational specifications. This strategy has been designed to reduce costs in the Research, Design, and Development phase with the aim of reducing the final unitary price of aircraft. This is the case of the F-35 Lightning II, where three versions, with significant differences among them, are produced simultaneously based on a single airframe. Whereas this strategy seems to be useful to cut down pre-production sunk costs, remains key to study their effects on production costs. This paper shows that this strategy can imply larger costs in the production phase by reducing learning acquisition and hence, the total effect on the final unitary price of the aircraft is indeterminate. Learning curves are estimated based on the flyaway cost for the latest three fighter aircraft models: The A/F-18E/F Super Hornet, F-22A Raptor, and the F-35A Lightning II. We find that learning rates for the F-35A are significantly lower (an estimated learning rate around 9%) than for the other two models (around 14%).

The project is a study into the various models of organisation and management of Technology Transfer Offices at universities in Europe. We found that different models may have their influence on the technology transfer of patents and research results.
An international survey was organised to collect data about their involvement with research commercialisation from individual scientists directly. The unit of analysis in this research is a scientist, which has been engaged in RC with or without the services from TTO staff in the years between 2010 and 2015. The collected data have been categorised by TT governance model and TTO location.

In this research project, the way that party leaders are discussed in terms of their leadership traits in media coverage is studied. To this end, both automated and manual content analyses are conducted. Here, one can find the search strings for the automated content analysis of newspapers and the codebook for the manual content analysis of both newspaper articles and television programs.

The Expert Survey Election Campaigns in Indonesia is a dataset consisting of assessments of characteristics of election campaigns in 38 districts across Indonesia, given by 509 local observers (academics, journalists, campaign organizers, NGO activists). The aim of the expert survey is to study regional variation in the character of politics with a particular focus on assessing the character and pervasiveness of clientelistic electoral strategies. The survey contains questions on clientelistic practices (such as vote buying, as well the degree to which the distribution of various state resources – public services, welfare, contracts, jobs, licenses, social assistance - are perceived to be contingent on electoral support) as well as campaign organization (role of political parties, perceived influence of types of organizations and leaders, role of bureaucrats) and voter behavior (effectiveness of programmatic and clientelistic vote mobilization, ethnicity). The questions in the survey concern election campaigns for district head elections, governor, local parliaments as well presidential elections. This expert survey was executed among 509 academics, journalists, NGO activists and campaign organisers from 38 districts in 16 provinces across Indonesia between April and July 2014. The survey material was used in Aspinall and Berenschot, Democracy for Sale: Elections, Clientelism and the State in Indonesia (Ithaca: Cornell University Press 2018).

The data presented in the accompanying files were collected through the Voting Advice Application (VAA) Stem-Consult, which was designed for the 2017 election for the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer) in the Netherlands which took place on March 15th, 2017. VAAs are contemporary technological solutions that aim to lower the cost of information that citizens face during elections. They do so primarily by comparing the positions of voters to the positions of candidates or political parties on a set of relevant policy issues and informing voters about how well their preferences match with those of the parties or candidates. The deposited datafiles contain the responses of those who visited the website and completed the online questionnaire, the estimates for the policy positions of the 14 largest political parties contesting the election, and the information that was used to estimate the positions of the political parties.

The MIFARE survey was designed to focus on immigrants who migrated to the receiving country at an age of 16 years or older. The MIFARE survey has been conducted in three countries: Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. All three countries have the opportunity to sample from population registers, including migrants. The opportunity to sample randomly from the registers enables us to test for representativeness of the survey, to approach migrant groups that are smaller in number, and guarantees comparable designs in the three countries. We propose to sample migrants from the age of 18 and older, and a native control group (to be able to compare between migrants and natives also for the questions specifically developed for the proposed survey). We choose 4 intra-EU origin countries and 6 extra-EU origin countries, including the most numerous migrant populations: Poland, Romania, Spain and the UK for the intra-EU origin countries. As extra-EU origin countries, we select China (mainland only, excluding Hong Kong), Japan, Turkey, the Philippines (not in Germany due to sampling issues), Russia, and the US. China and Turkey are the only countries not included in either the ISSP or ESS.

This data deposit contains two surveys, organised by the FWO/FNRS Excellence of Science Consortium RepResent (Representation and Democratic Resentment) in the context of the 2019 general elections in Belgium. The RepResent project aims to understand how three forms of representations - substantive, procedural and symbolic - affect democratic resentment amongst the public. It brings together scholars from five Belgian universities, including University of Antwerp, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, KU Leuven, UCLouvain, and Université Libre de Bruxelles. For more information on the project, visit http://represent-project.be/
The first dataset is the longitudinal dataset which contains survey data from a CAWI survey amongst representative samples of Flemish, Walloon and Brussels citizens. Respondents in this survey were surveyed twice, once before the elections, and once again immediately after the elections. In total, the wave 1 sample comprises N=7,351 respondents (3,298 in Flanders, 3,025 in Wallonia, and 1,028 in Brussels), whereas the wave 2 sample comprises N=3,917 respondents (1,978 in Flanders, 1,429 in Wallonia, and 510 in Brussels).
The second dataset is a cross sectional CAWI survey amongst Flemish (N=1,012) and Walloon (N=1,024) citizens that was organised immediately after the elections.
The deposit contains STATA and SPSS versions of each dataset, as well as accompanying codebooks that outline the field work, samples, and full questionnaires.

The Dutch Parliamentary Election Study 2017 has been an enterprise of the Foundation of Electoral Studies in The Netherlands (Stichting Kiezers Onderzoek Nederland; SKON) and Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
Data collection was in three distinct ways.
1. A first round of face to face interviews (CAPI) followed by a self-completion questionnaire (PAPI), executed by Kantar, based on a new sample drawn by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
2. A web-based questionnaire (CAWI) without a second questionnaire, executed by Kantar, based on a new sample drawn by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
3. A web-based questionnaire (CAWI) including a second web-based questionnaire, executed by CentERdata, in the LISS-panel, which is based on a sample drawn and refreshed by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
As in 2012, data collection was exlusively after the elections.
Several variables have been excluded from the public data file in order to protect the privacy of individual respondents. Examples are municipality, zip code and information that identifies the respondent or their region in the open answers. These variables are available for scientific purposes only at CentERdata.

This work is part of the 5-year research project “Getting to the Core of Crimmigration” (project number 452-16-003), which is financed through the VIDI research scheme by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), led my Professor M.A.H. Van de Woude. It as a part of Maryla Klajn’s doctoral dissertation “Agents of Change? (Hi)stories, perspectives, and every-day practices of the intra-Schengen border officials”. The paper: “Political meanings of national belonging: tracing the evolution of ‘Polskość’ in the III Republic of Poland” focuses on the a backlash response, to the effects of trans-national trends of past several decades, progressively more visible in recent years and expressed in the rise of populist, anti-migration movements in many countries throughout the world. Within the EU, Poland has become one of the most notorious anti-migration and pro- closed border states, with its new government elected in 2015 embracing a nationalist discourse, positioning the well-being of the country against the ‘invasion’ of other ethnicities and religions. The concept of Polskość, or Polish national identity (Polishness), is frequently used to legitimize political decision-making, and the idea of necessary protection of the socio-cultural homogeneity as the foundation of Polskość drives forward discussions of strengthening and securitizing the boundaries to protect it. It seems prudent then to question the meaning of that ‘national identity’, and by deconstructing values and ideas linked to that concept over time, understand what is really being protected when discussing protection of Polskość. We should ask then: in the III Republic of Poland, what were the initial political narratives that defined Polish national identity, and how have they evolved over time? This study locates and maps out shifts in the political discussions of Polskość over the last three decades by deploying critical policy discourse analysis in examination of the Polish parliamentary debates since 1989, and of Presidential New Year’s Eve addresses to the nation 1990-2018.

De Stemming 2020 (DS2020) is an online survey amongst a sample of N=2,040 respondents that live in the Flemish region of Belgium. The survey was developed by Jonas Lefevere and Stefaan Walgrave on the request of the Flemish public broadcaster (VRT) and the newspaper De Standaard, to analyse Flemish public opinion one year after the 2019 general elections in Belgium. Consequently, the topics covered in the survey concerned respondents’ political opinions and preferences, policy preferences, and general attitudes towards democracy and politics. Given that the survey was conducted in the middle of the peak of the Corona / COVID-19 pandemic, the survey also included an additional bloc of questions concerning support for the emergency measures taken, as well as the government’s handling of the crisis.

The current panel describes and explains the life-courses of immigrant and native young adults in the Netherlands. The survey covers three central themes: (A) progress in school and in the labour market, (B) the development of norms, values, lifestyle and attitudes, (C) changes in social networks and social participation. This panel is the first of a 3-wave panel study CILS4EU, which follows these immigrant and native children at age 14, 15 and 16 in the Netherlands, England, Germany and Sweden. Later waves were conducted in the Netherlands under the CILSNL project. Wave 1 interviews respondents of around 14 years old.
The reduced version includes reduced and aggregated information for some variables.

The current panel describes and explains the life-courses of immigrant and native young adults in the Netherlands. The survey covers three central themes: (A) progress in school and in the labour market, (B) the development of norms, values, lifestyle and attitudes, (C) changes in social networks and social participation. This panel is a continuation of the 3-wave panel study CILS4EU (which followed these immigrant and native children at age 14, 15 and 16 in the Netherlands, England, Germany and Sweden) and CILSNL (which followed these respondents at age 17 in the Netherlands). Wave 5 interviews these respondents of around 18 years old.
The full version includes complete information for all variables, as well as 4 digit postal code information.

The survey covers three central themes: (A) progress in school and in the labour market, (B) the development of norms, values, lifestyle and attitudes, (C) changes in social networks and social participation. Respondents are interviewed at age 17 (wave 4), 18 (wave 5), 19 (wave 6), and 20 (wave 7). The panel provides extensive information about these crucial ages, in which they will experience important developments, events and transitions: at school, on the labour market, but also with respect to their religion, identity, anti-social behaviour, prejudice, health, interethnic contacts, transnational ties, dating partners, relationship with their parents, and social participation.
This panel is a continuation of the 3-wave panel study CILS4EU, which followed these immigrant and native children at age 14, 15, 16, 17 in the Netherlands, England, Germany and Sweden.

This dataset contains replication data for Eelco Harteveld, Wouter van der Brug, Sarah de Lange, and Tom van der Meer, "Multiple roots of the populist radical right: support for the Dutch PVV in cities and the countryside", European Journal of Political Research. For privacy reasons, the neighbourhood ("wijk") level variables have been (1) rounded to one decimal and subsequently (2) standardized. As a result, replications using this data will diverge somewhat from the original analysis. To obtain the un-rounded data, please contact the authors.

This paper-and-pencil survey data is collected as part of a dissertation project on the effectiveness of on-site citizenship education on (inequalities in) democratic engagement. The hypothesized causal effects of on-site citizenship programs are tested by comparing the democratic engagement of students that did and did not yet participate in the main Dutch on-site citizenship program. The quasi-experimental data consists of four waves among 585 students in thirty classes and three schools, and allows for controlling for pre-test sensitization and time period by means of a Solomon four group design. The results show that the high expectations of on-site citizenship education need to be tempered: the main Dutch on-site citizenship program has a robust and lasting effect on political knowledge, but not on political attitudes and behaviors. Moreover, the program generally does not reduce pre-existing inequalities.

This is the database for the article Self-Sacrifice for the Common Good under Risk and Competition. Public service-motivated individuals have a greater concern for the delivery of public services and for the societal consequence of collective inaction, and they see themselves playing a pivotal role in upholding public goods. Such self-efficacy and perceived importance of public service jointly motivate individuals to commit themselves to sacrificing for the common good. Using an incentivized laboratory experiment with a Volunteer’s Dilemma game, which is a well-established stylized variant of a common good setting, we explore the association between self-reported Public Service Motivation (PSM) and voluntary self-sacrifice under different task characteristics and social contexts. We find that risk-taking and intergroup competition negatively moderate the positive effect of PSM on volunteering. The risky situation may reduce an individual’s self-efficacy in making meaningful sacrifice, and intergroup competition may divert attention from the concern for society at large to the outcome of the competition, compromising the positive effect of PSM on the likelihood to self-sacrifice for the common good.
